Pekalongan Regency

Pekalongan Regency is located in the western part of Pantura along the north coast road of the Java Island extending southward with Kajen Sub-district as the capital and the central government of Pekalongan Regency.

HISTORY

The word Pekalongan comes from the word kalong, which means "bat" in Javanese. According to a legend, Raden Bahu (Regent of Kendal I), a servant of Sultan Agung, was instructed by Sultan Agung to develop a new area west of Kendal, Raden Bahu then did the ‘tapa ngalong’ (meditated like a bat) in this new area to be able to defeat the demon king that were protecting the land and preventing Raden Bahu or his troop to enter the land.
Upon completing the ‘tapa ngalong’, he then succeeded in defeating the demon king and start building the new land, namely Pekalongan.

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

Geographically located between: 6 ° - 7 ° 23 ' and 109 ° - 109 ° 78' E, adjacent to:

  • Pekalongan City and Batang District in the east
  • North: Java Sea, Pekalongan City in the north
  • Banjarnegara District in the south.
  • Pemalang District in the west.

Topographically, Pekalongan Regency is a combination of flat areas in the northern region and the highlands / mountains areas in the southern region of which include Petungkriyono Sub-district with an altitude of 1,294 meters above sea level and is the bordered with Banjarnegara Regency, Lebakbarang Subdistrict, Paninggaran, Kandangserang, Talun, Doro, and parts of Karanganyar and Kajen Sub-districts.

CLIMATE

Rainfall in 2013 averaged 2.992 mm per year, higher than the previous year (2012) which experienced 2,243 mm rainfall. The average rainy day of 2013 is 143 days, higher than the average rainy day of 2012 of 120 days. The highest rainfall occurred in Kecamatan Lebakbarang on average per year 5,321 mm, the lowest rainfall were in Buaran Sub-District on average 873 mm per year. The average of rainy days is mostly in Talun sub-district, which is 196 days, while the lowest rainy day is in Wiradesa Sub-district which is 76 days.

Pekalongan Regency ± 836,13 km2 are consisting of rice field 24,871,51 ha or 29,75%, dry land 58,741,56 ha (70,25%).

ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRIBUTION

Pekalongan Regency consists of 19 districts, which are further divided into 272 villages and 13 administrative villages. The central government is in Kajen Sub-district. Kajen, formerly a subdistrict that has been developed into the new regency capital, replaces the Pekalongan Regency Government Center located on Jl. Nusantara No. 1 Kota Pekalongan. The relocation of the Capital of Pekalongan Regency to Kajen, was carried out on 25 August 2001, although the Minister of Home Affairs Decree was already issued in 1996. This is related to the construction of new facilities and infrastructure of government facilities in Kota Kajen can only be implemented gradually.

The population in Pekalongan Regency in 2014 was 867,700 people. While in 2015 the population in Pekalongan Regency was increased to 873,990 people. With the male population of 434,180 people and the female of 439,810 people. The rate of population growth in 2014 – 2015 amounted to 0.14 percent. The number of sex ratio between men and women in the Pekalongan Regency in 2015 amounted to 0.99 while population density reached 1,045 per km 2.

EMPLOYMENT

The number of labor force in Pekalongan Regency in 2015 is 410,990 people. With a working population of 390,027 people and unemployment of 20,963 people. TOURIST ATTRACTION

Curug Muncar Waterfall
Located on the slopes of Mount Ragajambangan with an altitude of about 1,249 meters above sea level (asl). The Waterfall is located in Curugmuncar Village, Petungkriono Sub- district. Visitors can reach the location by motorcycle or car in about 2.5 hours from Pekalongan City. Visitors will also be pampered with the beautiful view of a refreshingly natural scenery of rows of trees against the waterfall.

Lolong River Rafting
Lolong Village which has an exotic panoramic beauty of their clear and abundant river, with natural rocks at the bottom and along the side and a unique arch bridge of Dutch’s heritage, makes Lolong River very potential as a tourist attraction. Water volume as well as the speed of water flow of Lolong River varied and presents an interesting water rides for families and lovers of nature tourism, especially those who are interested in rafting with all kind of
attractions guided by certified “skipper” team. Another attraction of this Lolong River is a stone inscription of the song "Lolong"; from famous Indonesian ballad singer Ebiet G Ade in 1976.

Linggoasri Resort
Linggoasri is a nature tourism attraction located about 12 kilometers south of Kajen, has a beautiful landscape, with an area of ​​about five hectares, with a variety of facilities and rides in it such as swimming pools, villas, children's playground, mini zoo, fishing pond, mushala praying area, meeting rooms, toilets, parking lot, artistic stage, and national parks, located south of Kajen Sub-district at an altitude of 700 m above sea level. 2. Beef Cattle Fattening Business
