Semarang, The Most Developed City

JAKARTA-Semarang has been awarded as the most developed city in Indonesia. The city ranked the first by topping Denpasar and Makassar, respectively. The award was given by President Joko Widodo in Regional Development Award 2019 held by the State Ministry for Development Planning / National Development Planning Agency at Shangrila Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (9/5).

During the event, the President highlighted the importance of development and connecting all industrial area, tourist area, small industrial center and agriculture and farming production center. Jokowi also added that bureaucracy and structural reformation must be implemented. “The simpler the organization, the quicker and more flexible the service provided and the policy decided. I strongly recommend not to uphold convensional method and tradition” he added.

Semarang’s mayor, Hendrar Prihadi, claimed that the change in method has become the key factor in developing the city.

This achievement is the product of Improving Together development concept in which all aspects of the society has participated immensely. “Since 2013, we have tried our best to lay the foundation of Semarang Smart City. This is one of our efforts to optimize the development acceleration. We had no sufficient budget at that time. Therefore, we invited private sector to provide us with internet access as the basis.” said Hendi.

The change in development method by implementing the concept of Improving Together has been able to produce another award. At the same time, Semarang Regional Government has been awarded for their success in managing Public-Private Partnership scheme for the Water Supply System Project in West Semarang. Hence, Semarang was managed to secure two awards during the event.

Hendi is determined to continue the positive trend, “We will try our best to maintain and improve our progress” while closing his statement.
